Mr. Naveen Jindal has many facets to his personality. He is a Member of Parliament, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), Chancellor of the O.P. Jindal Global University, a sports enthusiast and a family man.

The youngest son of Late Sh. O.P. Jindal, the steel visionary and former Minister for Power in the government of Haryana, Mr Naveen Jindal is the man behind the transformation of a moderately performing company into a world class organization. After consolidating its position as a leading player in the steel, power, mining and infrastructure sectors domestically, JSPL has now diversified into the oil & gas sector and internationally with operations in Africa, Bolivia, Oman, Australia, Mongolia, Indonesia and Georgia.

Recently, JSPL was rated the Second Highest Value Creator in the world by the Boston Consulting Group of USA. Mr Jindal has also been featured among the top ten of India Inc’s Most Powerful CEOs 2011 by a survey conducted by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) for Economic Times-Corporate Dossier. He has also featured in the Most Influential People’s List for the state of Haryana by India Today and has been conferred with the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2010 in the field of Energy and Infrastructure.

He is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a caring politician and an effective parliamentarian. He represents Haryana state’s Kurukshetra constituency in the Lok Sabha which has a population in excess of 2 million people. He has registered two consecutive wins by impressive margins from this constituency. He started his active participation in politics during his college days, during which he was the President of the Student Senate and recipient of the ‘Student Leader of the Year Award’ at the University of Texas, USA (UTD).

In recognition of Mr. Jindal’s exceptional distinction in the fields of entrepreneurship and public service, unqualified reputation for honesty, personal integrity and high standards of personal and professional character, the University of Texas has named its school of management in his name. It has now been christened as Naveen Jindal School of Management. The recognition has also lead to the establishment of the Naveen Jindal Institute for Indo-American Business Studies.

Mr Jindal is a management graduate from the UTD and was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2010 by the University for his contribution towards public service, being a responsible corporate citizen and guiding his company in becoming a global player.

Weeding out corruption, women’s empowerment, population stabilisation, aiming for a hunger free society, promotion of sports at all levels, advocating a clean environment and providing health and educational facilities across India top his agenda. His ideology is to incorporate best practices of business management into politics.

As issues of national pride and self-esteem have always been uppermost in his mind, Mr. Jindal single-handedly took up the cause of restoring in Indians a national pride, choosing the Tricolour as his symbol. As a result of his decade long crusade, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, in a historic judgment on January 23, 2004 held that the right to fly the National Flag freely, with respect and dignity is a Fundamental Right of every Indian Citizen.

Mr. Jindal’s next campaign was successful when in December 2009 the Home Ministry agreed to a proposal made by him to fly the flag at night where the flag is installed on a monumental / giant pole with proper illumination. Taking it forward, he campaigned and in Feb 2010 got the Rules Committee of the Indian Parliament through the Hon’ble Speaker to allow the Members of Parliament to display the National Flag as a lapel pin while seated in the House. Mr. Jindal is currently putting up monumental flags of 100 ft high across the country. More than 20 flags have been hoisted up till now.

Mr. Jindal is a national record holder in skeet shooting and an accomplished Polo player. He was also a part of the Haryana shooting team that won the Gold medal at the 54th National shooting Championship competition (Big Bore) in the civilian category held at Gurgaon in May 2011.

He and his wife Shallu alongwith their children, Venkatesh and Yashasvini, reside in Delhi where they are also active in the local community and in supporting education and the performing arts.
