Glimpses from the Past

The past four conferences were a huge success with stalwarts from the entire gamut of steel making and allied industries like primary and secondary producers, coke, iron ore, shipping, technology suppliers etc. taking part. The Seminar cum expositions were not only acclaimed critically but were also hailed as a unique opportunity for the attending delegates to network and forge ahead. The previous events received overwhelming response and had worldwide participations of over 150 delegates. The unanimous conviction that emerged from the deliberations is “The Future of Steel is in India……” The coming century heralds the Indian growth story and for anyone to ignore the Indian potential would be at his own peril.

The year was 2004. Fired by the vision of a resurgent India by the year 2020 we set out to bring the scattered knowledge base and the dispersed skill sets together, to work towards the common goal. An endeavour that gave birth to Global Steel 2004 . An event that unanimously identified the theme: The future of steel is in India !

The overwhelming response from industry captains, analysts, mandarins and pundits alike propelled global steel on to the next stage –Global Steel 2005- The Road to Sustained Growth.

The following year, many of the cherished dreams had already started bearing fruits as the economy displayed signs of resolute strength. Bourses were booking and the industries were buoyant. Two digit growth rates were the point of discussion and with a future ripe with promises, Global Steel 2006 unfolded, "Steeling the March Ahead to a million tonnes of Steel".

Global Steel 2007 was relocated to the mine head on the port, in the center of the thriving market of eastern India, to Kolkata, where it all began. The event was as much a celebration of the gradual shift of steel making facilities to the east, as was that of the locate, the City of Joy. The theme, “The Sun & Steel rises in the east”

Global Steel 2010 deliberated on the road map for India to achieve the steel vision of achieving 300 million tonnes of steel by 2020. The analysts were unanimous in their belief that India can cross 100 MT mark by 2015 and 200 MT by 2020. The best of minds across the world dwelled on various topics to work towards a common goal – making steel sinews for the Nation on a growth trajectory.

Global Steel 2010 was an invigorating experience for India to have closer ties and better trade prospects with a number of countries – particularly Australia, the nation having the potential to meet India’s raw material needs to fuel our steel dreams.

Tie-Up the support

The dress code for Global Steel is smart casual. Delegates and speakers are encouraged to wear neck ties, which attract a fine. Money so collected is donated to India Renal Foundation.
